YPA Rich Mix Panel Discussion, 20 November 2011
Come and join us at the Rich Mix Centre on the 20 November 2011 from 7pm for our panel discussion: “When ideals meet harsh reality: how can emerging photographers pursue a personal vision and still survive in the competitive world of professional photography?”
Respected picture editor Colin Jacobson is moderating a panel discussion to investigate how emerging photographers can be commercially successful. YPA has pulled together a panel of veteran photographers, rising stars, and picture editors. The panelists include award-winning photographers Timothy Allen, John Wright, John Angerson, Adam Patterson, Jason Larkin, and picture editor Susan Glen.
Our talk will start from 7pm at Rich Mix 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA. The event is free so we hope to see you on the 20th! Find out more about the panel

Select Photofair Competition & Opening Night Benefit
The Young Photographers' Alliance (YPA) charity is pleased to announce its partnership with the Select Photofair in London.
On 27th of October, leading photographic commercial magazine, Select, will be launching it's first annual Photofair at theprintspace in Hoxton. For over 30 years, the magazine has been the preferred reference tool of key creative decision makers in advertising, graphic design, fashion and retail. Now the magazine is bringing together some of its top photographers for its first group show event. Showcasing the work of over 30 leading international photographers, the Select Photofair will give collectors, art buyers, and creatives the unique opportunity to both discover new commercial talent and buy high quality, but affordable prints.
YPA ran a competition offering 3 young photographers the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Select Photofair. We are pleased to announce the winners: Sarah Howe, Helen Mildmay-White, and Aditya Swami. Here are their winning pictures:

YPA is delighted to announce the appointment of new YPA Advisory Board member, award-winning photographer John Wright. John Wright is one of the UK's leading fashion, portrait and advertising photographers. Winner of an unprecedented 7 awards in this year's Prix De Paris, Europe's largest photographic competition, and holder of the 2010 Magazine Cover of The Year award John is listed by Luerzer's Archive as one of the world's Top 200 Advertising Photographers. Throughout his career, John has been dedicated to helping young photographers. He runs an exceedingly popular internship from his Shoreditch studio. johnwrightphoto.com

YPA launches its first public exhibition at the Calumet Gallery, New York City. This exhibit shows the work from the 2010 Mentoring Programme: Answering Adversity, including the images from the 38 young photographer mentees from Britain, the US, and Canada. The exhibit opened on the 14th of January.

Congratulations to the joint winners of this year's TPOTY/YPA Emerging Talent Award, Kat Waters (UK) and Ivar August Bull (Norway). They will both be offered places in the YPA 2011 Mentoring Programme and feedback sessions with the editorial staff of the British Journal of Photography. The winner of the TPOTY New Talent award, Eric Kruszewski, will also receive a portfolio review courtesy of YPA. See their work in the TPOTY winners gallery.
