Select Photofair Competition Winners and Opening Night Benefit

18 October 2011

The Young Photographers’ Alliance (YPA) charity is pleased to announce its partnership with the Select Photofair in London.

On 27th of October, leading photographic commercial magazine, Select, will be launching it’s first annual Photofair at theprintspace in Hoxton. For over 30 years, the magazine has been the preferred reference tool of key creative decision makers in advertising, graphic design, fashion and retail. Now the magazine is bringing together some of its top photographers for its first group show event. Showcasing the work of over 30 leading international photographers, the Select Photofair will give collectors, art buyers, and creatives the unique opportunity to both discover new commercial talent and buy high quality, but affordable prints. The exhibition includes prints from award-winning photographers such as Timothy Allen, Ian Cumming, and Sasha Gusov. The collection of 20 x 30 inch prints will be sold in an edition of 50 for just £250 a photograph.

YPA Members, Sarah Howe, Helen Mildmay-White, and Aditya Swami won places at this inaugural event through the YPA Select Photofair Competition. YPA Members were asked to submit a maximum of two images each and a panel from YPA and Select chose three images for entrance in the show. By exhibiting at Photofair, these emerging photographers will have the chance to sell prints and attract commercial attention from prospective clients. Select will also be donating its proceeds of opening night print sales to YPA, helping to support young British photographers!

YPA helps young photographers aged between 18 and 29 bridge the gap between their passion for photography and professional success. Led by industry professionals, YPA provides young photographers with practical experience, industry knowledge, resources, and contacts in order to help them to build successful and sustainable careers.

The Publisher of Select Magazine, Sheldon Marshall says: “In such a tough and competitive industry, it’s important to enable the next generation of photographers to fulfil their potential. Select is pleased to be able to help the Young Photographers’ Alliance by donating proceeds from our print sales on opening night.".

The Select Photofair launches during the East London photographic festival, Photomonth, and runs for 4 weeks from 27 October - 24 November. Prints will be available for purchase directly from the gallery or online. The Select Photofair in London will be the first of its kind, with future events planned in Berlin, Paris, New York, and Shanghai.

The Select Photofair opening night and private view is on Thursday, 27 October at theprintspace gallery. To be added to the guest list, please contact press@selectphotofair.com.
